Merlot has always been there. Welcoming, warm, familiar. Try a good merlot for the first time, a fine straight merlot with a soft and steady heart, and you may be left wondering why it’s taken you so long!

Merlot’s medium-bodied softness is one of the reasons it’s often blended with other more forceful varieties, such as cabernet sauvignon. However, the challenge for us – and more and more Australian winemakers – is to capture the completeness of the variety and present it at its best. Whole.

Since merlot was first documented in France in the 1700s, its DNA has pushed out across the globe in a huge way. In Bordeaux, however, it remains the principal red variety behind some of the most esteemed and expensive wines in the world, such as Petrus and Le Pin.

Old World meets New World, our new and exciting label on a traditional variety – merlot really has been there for you all along.
