Did You Know?
Merlot is known as a difficult variety to grow, having a reputation for erratic and unreliable fruit yield. It is also susceptible to a condition commonly known as Hen and Chicken - when large (hen) grapes and small (chicken) grapes ripen erratically on a bunch. The small and unripened berries not only affect yield but dilute the flavour of the riper berries.
A green, herbaceous influence may be good news for, say, a chardonnay but it's certainly bad news for merlot. Happily, we manage to avoid this problem as our merlot vines are grafted onto rootstock that makes them resistant to this challenging condition. |
Art in the Vineyard
Grab the family, pack a picnic and come and see our local artists shine. We're very excited to be part of the Dardanup Art Trail, a weekend event from May 1- May 2, showcasing amazing works by local and visiting artists.
Local vineyards will act as galleries for the weekend, displaying sculptures, paintings and photographs to the public. The Dardanup town hall will also open its doors, hosting artwork for the town centre's Art Spectacular.
Be sure to highlight Bonking Frog Wines on your Art Trail map, as we will be hosting works by Greg Gelmi (metal and wood sculptures), 'Roo' Maltby (soft cloth sculptures) and Greg Stover (mosaics).
For more information about the Art Trail, visit the Shire of Dardanup's website www.dardanup.wa.gov.au/events or contact us directly.
